Mixxx Audio Is Clipping or Distorting

Find and correct clipping or distortion in a Mixxx broadcast.

What Clipping Sounds Like

Clipping usually produces harsh, flattened, or distorted peaks. It occurs when the signal exceeds the available level range.

Check the Master Meter

Watch the master output while playing your loudest normal material. If the level is repeatedly reaching the maximum, reduce the source or master gain.

Check Multiple Gain Stages

  • Deck/channel gain
  • Channel faders
  • Master level
  • External mixer or interface levels, if used

Do Not Chase Loudness

A clean, controlled signal is more useful than a constantly overloaded one. If only particular songs clip, inspect those tracks rather than raising or lowering the entire system blindly.
