Why Passwords Cause So Much Confusion
SHOUTcast environments can use different credentials for different functions. The exact credential model depends on the server and control-panel configuration, so use the credentials supplied for your specific digiSTREAM service rather than assuming every password has the same purpose.
Source Authentication
The source or encoder credential is used by broadcasting software when it connects to the streaming server. If this credential is wrong, the encoder may connect and immediately be rejected or display an authentication error.
DJ Credentials
A DJ account may have its own username and password for accessing the station or connecting through a configured DJ source. Do not assume the DJ's control-panel login and the encoder's source credential are interchangeable.
What to Check in SAM Broadcaster
Verify the server address, port, encoder type, username if required, and password exactly as provided. Watch for extra spaces and accidental use of an old password.
If Authentication Fails
Search the exact SAM error message in the digiSTREAM Knowledge Base. Errors such as 401 are more useful when interpreted together with the encoder configuration and credentials being used.
Still Having Problems?
If the problem continues after checking the items above, digiSTREAM support can help determine whether the issue is related to the encoder, AutoDJ, streaming server, or network.
- The exact error message, if one is displayed.
- Your streaming server port.
- Whether AutoDJ or a live DJ is currently connected.
- What changed immediately before the problem began.
- The approximate time the problem occurred.
