BUTT — Connect to digiSTREAM SHOUTcast

Set up BUTT (Broadcast Using This Tool) on Windows or macOS to send a live audio feed to your digiSTREAM server.

Gather your connection details

Find the source hostname, encoder port and source password in your digiSTREAM account. A live DJ account may require different credentials or a different port when AutoDJ is enabled. Use encoder details, not the public listener URL.

Add your SHOUTcast server

  1. Open BUTT and select Settings.
  2. In the server configuration, choose Add.
  3. Select Shoutcast as the server type.
  4. Enter the hostname (without http://), broadcast port and password provided for your account.
  5. Save the server entry and select it as your destination.
BUTT uses the SHOUTcast v1 source protocol, which can connect to many SHOUTcast v2 servers through their legacy-compatible input. It does not use native SHOUTcast v2 source mode. If your connection requires a DJ username or stream ID, consult the current BUTT manual and digiSTREAM support rather than guessing a password format.

Select audio input and format

  1. In BUTT audio settings, choose your microphone, mixer, interface or virtual audio input.
  2. Choose an MP3 bitrate supported by your hosting plan (for example 128 kbps only when permitted).
  3. Play a test signal and confirm BUTT’s level meters respond without clipping.

BUTT does not play a music library on its own. To broadcast audio from another application, route that application’s output into an input BUTT can capture.

Connect and listen

  1. Press the connect/play button in BUTT.
  2. Check its status and connection log.
  3. Open your public listener URL in a separate player to verify audio is audible.
