How Do My Listeners Connect to My SHOUTcast Station?

A simple guide to the listener address, port, and information you can give your audience when sharing a digiSTREAM SHOUTcast station.

What Your Listeners Need

Your listeners normally need the public stream address and the correct streaming port. They do not use the DJ encoder password or your Centova Cast login.

The Basic Listener Address

A typical listener address uses the server hostname or IP address together with the streaming port assigned to your station. The exact address depends on your digiSTREAM service configuration.

Do Not Give Listeners Your DJ Credentials

The password used by broadcasting software is for the encoder connection. Do not publish it as part of your public listener information.

Test Before Sharing

Open your station through a compatible player or browser-based player, if available, and verify that audio is actually reaching listeners before distributing the address.

Need More Help?

If the station is online but listeners cannot connect, use the Knowledge Base article for a station that is online but nobody can hear it, or check how to test your streaming port.
