VirtualDJ Audio Is Distorted or Clipping

Troubleshoot distorted, harsh, or clipped audio from VirtualDJ before it reaches the SHOUTcast encoder.

VirtualDJ Audio Is Distorted or Clipping

Clipping usually means one or more stages of the audio chain are being driven too hard. Lowering the encoder bitrate will not repair clipping that already exists in the source signal.

  1. Watch the master meter while the loudest part of a song is playing.
  2. Reduce excessive track gain or master gain.
  3. Check external mixer/interface input levels if hardware is involved.
  4. Disable unnecessary effects or processing while testing.
  5. Listen locally through the same master path used for broadcast.
  6. Once clean audio is established, restore processing one stage at a time.
Goal: clean, controlled audio with headroom—not meters pinned at maximum.
